John Neufeld, Sr., Proprietor
As co-founder of Palatine Hills Estate Winery, John Neufeld, Sr. has led the way as visionary for the vineyard and an innovator for the Niagara grape growing industry.
Under John’s tutelage, the progressive team at the winery take what is tried, true and traditional about their time-honoured craft, and elevate the quality and experience of their wine with a modern sense of truthfulness to the land.
Palatine Hills is a family owned and operated winery in the truest sense, growing an impressive cultivated group of varietals.
Year after year, it’s been our drive to express what we love about our land and the vines that grow here, and that really comes out in the quality of our wines. It’s our drive for distinction that keeps us innovating.
The winemaker is one of the Neufeld sons, John J Neufeld. He has been on the familys’ farm since he was born in the mid 80’s. He grew up and worked on the farm throughout his childhood, then moved onto completing the Winery & Viticultural program at Niagara College. After gaining experience at other wineries in Niagara and completing a vintage in Australia, he’s settled in at home, Palatine Hills Estate Winery, since 2008.
His favourite wine & varietal happen to be a tie between Merlot and Cabernet Franc. They both grow very well on our farm, in our sandy loam soil and really showcase the awesome characteristics of Ontario’s cool climate.
The unique terroir can be seen in our award winning Chardonnays, as well as the ‘mineral’ characteristics showcased in our Riesling and with how well our Pinot Grigio, Cabernet Franc and Merlot grow here.
